Apple released fresh data today showing that 76% of iPhones released in the last four years are already running iOS 18. Just 5% are still using older versions of iOS, while 19% are still using iOS 17. 68% of all iPhones that are still in use are running iOS 18, 19% are running iOS 17, and 13% are running an older version.
In contrast to 27% running iPadOS 17 and 10% running older versions, 63% of iPads released in the last four years are already running iPadOS 18. 53% of all iPads still in use are running iPadOS 18, 28% are running iPadOS 17, and 19% are running an older version.
When you compare these stats on the featured image above to any Android device manufacturer, you can either laugh (if you’re an iOS enthusiast) or cry (if you’re an Android fan) or conclude that the adoption speed of iOS and iPadOS has peaked. It’s up to you.
As of January 21, these figures are based on the number of devices that made purchases on the App Store. The figures show a substantially similar adoption pattern when compared to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 at the same time last year.
76% of iPhones released in the previous four years at that time were the most recent model, compared to 66% of all iPhones. 53% of all iPads and 61% of those released in the previous four years were affected.
