Nigeria Launches New Online Passport Renewal System for Nigerians Abroad (2025 Update)
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a new and easier way for Nigerians living abroad to renew their passports without visiting any embassy or office. This is part of the government’s effort to make passport services faster, cheaper, and more convenient for citizens overseas.
Which Countries Are Included?
The new online passport renewal system is now available in:
✅ United States (since April 11, 2025)
✅ Jamaica (since April 14, 2025)
✅ Mexico (since April 14, 2025)
✅ Brazil (since April 14, 2025)
It was first launched in Canada (November 2024) and later in Europe (February 2025), including the UK and Ireland.

🔜 Nigeria (for those inside the country)
How Does It Work?
The process is simple and can be done entirely from your phone:
- Download the “NIS Mobile” App (Available on Google Play Store for Android users).
- The iPhone version (iOS) will be available soon.
- Fill in your details (name, passport number, etc.).
- Upload required documents (photo, old passport copy, etc.).
- Make payment online (using debit card or other approved methods).
- Submit and wait for approval (you will get updates via email/SMS).
- Receive your new passport (delivered to your address).
Why Is This Better Than Before?
Before this system, Nigerians abroad had to:
