Redmi Watch 5 Review: What to Expect and How It Performs

Since the Redmi Watch 5 made its world premiere earlier this week, it was only fitting that we give it a review. At first glance, it might not appear much that different from the Redmi Watch 4 from the previous year, but this new model has a 2.07-inch AMOLED screen that becomes noticeably brighter at 1,500 nits. At €109, which is €9 more than the starting price of the Watch 4, you get a 60Hz refresh rate, which is increasingly common on smartwatches, and Always-On display capability.

All of the models in our testing unit have an aluminum alloy frame, which feels upscale and comforting, and the silicone watch strap is lavender purple. Far superior to some smartwatches made entirely of plastic.

Along with Xiaomi’s exclusive two-pin magnetic charger that terminates in a USB-A connector, the retail box includes the standard pamphlets.

  1. Bigger, Better Display
One of the standout features of the Redmi Watch 5 is its 1.78-inch AMOLED display. Compared to previous models, this is a noticeable upgrade, offering richer colors, deeper blacks, and better overall brightness. Whether you’re under bright sunlight or in a dimly lit room, the display remains sharp and readable. The resolution has also improved, providing clearer visuals and text.
  2. Sleek and Lightweight Design
The Redmi Watch 5 maintains a lightweight and comfortable design, which is perfect for all-day wear. The rounded square shape is sleek and minimalistic, because of its thin bezels and 33.5-gram weight, the Redmi Watch 5 is hardly noticeable on your wrist, even with its larger screen. Swiping the screen is how you use the HyperOS interface, but if your hands get wet, you can also use the metal crown piece. The crown can be used as a handy back button by applying pressure.
  3. Enhanced Health and Fitness Tracking
The smartwatch comes equipped with advanced sensors to track your heart rate, sleep patterns, and SpO2 levels. These features are especially useful for fitness enthusiasts or anyone looking to monitor their health more closely. With more than 150 activities, the watch can help you remain on track with your exercise objectives while monitoring your heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, sleep patterns, and stress levels. Swimming is also possible because the entire device is 5ATM waterproof and has an integrated GNSS receiver for tracking your runs.

  4. Built-in GPS
A notable upgrade is the built-in GPS in the Redmi Watch 5. This feature is a huge plus for outdoor runners, hikers, or cyclists who want to track their routes without needing their phone nearby. You can leave your phone at home and still get precise location data during your workout.
  5. Extended Battery Life
The Redmi Watch 5 comes with an impressive 280mAh battery that provides up to 14 days of battery life on a single charge. This makes it perfect for long trips or busy schedules without constantly needing to charge it. The Watch 5’s dual microphones and built-in speaker let you to make and receive calls right from the device. You won’t be able to respond to incoming messages, but it will buzz your wrist for notifications. Xiaomi is still apprehensive about releasing its eSIM watches outside of China.

According to Xiaomi, the Watch 5’s 550mAh battery may last up to 24 days. Stay tuned as we test those claims in our comprehensive review along with our regular series of testing.

  6. Water Resistance
Rated 5ATM for water resistance, the Redmi Watch 5 can withstand water depths of up to 50 meters. This means you can wear it while swimming, showering, or in rainy conditions without worrying about damage. If you’re someone who enjoys water sports or just doesn’t want to worry about taking the watch off during daily activities, this feature is a big advantage.
  7. Customizable Watch Faces
For those who love personalizing their devices, the Redmi Watch 5 offers a variety of customizable watch faces. Whether you prefer a classic analog look or something more modern, you can easily switch between different styles to match your mood or outfit.

Redmi Watch 5 vs Competitors

In terms of price, the Redmi Watch 5 offers incredible value for money. It competes well against other budget smartwatches like the Amazfit Bip U Pro and the Realme Watch 2 Pro, offering a similar range of features at a slightly lower price point. While it may not have the premium features found in high-end models like the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch, the Redmi Watch 5 provides everything most users need on low price tag.
